Okay, This was a bit makimg, but in the end I actually feel like it was worth it. So when I heard about these books, I was excited. I would relate this book to reading the childhood story of your favorite role model, hero, celebrity – except my “hero” was a fictional character, in a fantasy world, who kept my imagination soaring to new heights.

The book is plagued by continuity, logical, transitional and grammatical anomalies. Any sense of suspense is non-existent as he goes from one quest to the next usually with someone helping him along pf on his own he’s pretty useless. There is no connection between them, and in a way they are all independent communities there is no concept of democracy or a republic in the Forgotten Realms, which is very disappointing since Republics have been in existence for a very long time — in fact I have never seen the word republic used in conjuction with the Forgotten Realms, despite it having been a part of our vocabulary, since at least Plato.

I’ve read far-worse written books about characters I love and care about deeply, following them through 10 of elmimster series and watched as the author got bored of the writing. Infinitely better than Elminster There was no feeling in the performance, his reading cadence was cumbersome and he barely varied his tone to indicate different characters. I love this series so much, i bought them all.

Ed Greenwood is a prolific writer with an excellent style, and I absorbed each of his Elminsster novels, soaking in the superb storytelling strengths this author brings to the table.

At this point, of course, it is much to late to protest that it is a Bad Book, that it is Written Very Poorly, that I find it Profoundly Stupid – because I was caught reading it rather than caught pitching it disgustedly against the wall. That said, the narrator was awful.

Ed Greenwood wrote Elminster: Before I started this book, I read some of the bad reviews and I foolishly thought, “It can’t be that bad! If you are a Forgotten Pf reader or roleplayer you have off this name and likely marveled at his abilities as the protector of Shadowdale, keeper of the lore and defender of Mystra’s might.

Elminster’s history is critical to a proper understanding of Forgotten Realms. In these ancient days, Elminster is but a shepherd boy, dreaming of adventure and heroics. With patience and grit, Elminster sets about to change all that.
