Why I use BibDesk instead of Papers
BibDesk offers an iTunes -like Cocoa -based graphical user interface for creating, editing, managing, and searching BibTeX databases. Annotare offers automation using AppleScript and using other scripting languages via Bibdeso. One issue that I have is replacing astro-ph articles with the published version, once the published version becomes available. I actually purchased a License for Papers when I was writing my thesis, and transferred my bibliography over from Bibdesk to Papers.

The code you provided is an improvement upon what I had written, but unfortunately there was something wrong in my original code; storing a file name in the “Local-URL-2” field does not link the file to the entry. The new biblatex package offers such a feature which is more convenient.
