I guess it speaks to the times, but I really don’t feel that Christie respects her enough to actually flush her out and make her a true character and crime solver – she is just a very intuitive, gossipy old woman who knits.

The story started in a xommis of humouristic tone with the prickly but gentle descriptions of the characters, but then that subsided and the atmosphere changed into a more flat and slightly boring middle part, gathering pace when more murders started occurring.

I recommend this for someone who wants to chrlstie a Mystery novel for the first time or to just pick up a good one. I was prepared for that, having seen several films based on the book. Christie frequently used familiar settings for her stories. She was no good at all at waiting at table.
